Human Intellect

Have you ever noticed that the most brilliant people in our world, not only today, but throughout history, generally are not Believers? Many well known Atheists, such as Richard Dawkins or Annie Gaylor, are, in fact, quite genius. Other more well known geniuses are or were, perhaps not atheist, but not Believers. Albert Einstein, for instance, was not an atheist; rather, he said he believed in the “pantheistic” god; basically, that the universe is god and that god is the universe, and everything in it. He was also known as an agnostic. In his own words, “An attitude of humility corresponding to the weakness of our intellectual understanding of nature and of our own being.” But, he was not a Christian Believer.

Today, there is a popular Youtube channel called Vsauce. The videos it uploads are educational, funny, and deep-thinking. I find most of them to be quite interesting, and they seem fairly accurate. But, they are not Christians. Their frequent references to evolution and the age of our planet makes this quite evident. Yet, these people seem to be geniuses. So, why is this? Why do the intelligent people always seem to be non-Believers? Are we missing something here? The answer is no. We are not missing anything, except maybe the cause of unbelief. What is this cause? The Bible tells us quite plainly, actually.

Jeremiah 49:16. “As for the terror of you, the arrogance of your heart has deceived you, O you who live in the clefts of the rock, Who occupy the height of the hill. Though you make your nest as high as an eagle’s, I will bring you down from there, declares the Lord.” The arrogance of your heart has deceived you. Arrogance and pride. That is the number one cause for unbelief in America. We all think we are so smart. We think we know it all. We let our pride blind us to the Truth. You have all heard of the ABC’s of believing, right? Admit it, we’ve all been to a Vacation Bible School at least once in our lives. The ABC’s, though, are not easy. Let’s look at A. Admit. When was the last time you wanted to admit something? Admitting is defined as “confessing to be true or to be the case, typically with reluctance.” Why with reluctance? Because admitting generally means humbling yourself. Admitting that you were wrong, or that you did something you know you should not have. Admitting is a humbling experience. No one wants to admit something. We want to keep our pride, our feeling of “we know everything and do everything right”. Admitting you are wrong totally kills that pride. All humans, by our sinful nature, are prideful. But, chief among us are the intelligent. The geniuses. These people are highly intelligent, and have probably been told so their entire life. They therefore have a higher view of themselves, and think they are always right. So if you think admitting is hard for us, imagine how they feel about it. They can’t be wrong, so they refuse to admit that they are wrong.

Every atheist, every liberal professor, every non-believer has a pride problem. They refuse to admit they are wrong, and therefore cannot accept that there is a God, a greater power. They want to believe that we humans are supreme, that we are the most intelligent, and that they are the chief among us, that they absolutely refuse to believe in a greater power. They try so hard to find evidence of anything that could possibly disprove God, that they don’t even look at the possibility that God really does exist. They refuse the truth. But, there is more. They don’t realize they are doing this. An atheist reading this is probably scoffing, knowing that they have evidence to prove me wrong, and that they certainly know better than me. But that is exactly the thinking I’m talking about. They refuse to admit they are wrong, and they don’t even realize they are doing it. This subtle pride is implanted into all of us before birth, by the Deceiver.

Have you ever heard the phrase, “Don’t underestimate your enemy”? That is exactly what we humans do. We think of the Devil, of Satan, as some horned, red-skinned demon who runs around causing havoc and sin. This is not at all what he, in reality, does. He is called a “Thief in the night, who comes to steal and destroy.” He is called the Liar, the Deceiver. But have we ever really thought about these names? The Deceiver. That implies subtlety, does it not? He and his minions often disguise themselves as Angels of light, not darkness. He hides sin in what seems harmless. He hides pride behind intelligence. And from that pride comes unbelief.

So, no, we are not missing anything. In fact, it is these brilliant thinkers who are missing something. They are missing the truth because they cannot see beyond their own pride, a pride so cleverly disguised as intelligence. But how many of us are no different? Even if we have accepted Jesus into our lives, how many of us think we know better than Jesus? How many of us insist on going our own way, our own path, rather than obeying the Word of Law that God has laid down for us? Because the Deceiver is clever. Do not think he only goes after unbelief. No, he hides pride behind many things, ranging from intelligence to religion. He does not necessarily want you to stop believing. He just wants to confuse what it is you believe in, or make your own way sound better than the way you supposedly believe in. He wants to subtly deceive you, twist the truth just enough in your eyes that you think you are believing and obeying God, when in fact, you are believing and obeying yourself.

Jeremiah 7:8-10.  Behold, you trust in deceptive words to no avail. Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, make offerings to Baal, and go after other gods that you have not known, and then come and stand before Me in this house, which is called by My Name, and say, ‘We are delivered!’—only to go on doing all these abominations?

Comedy – Why I hate it

I love watching movies. What teenage guy doesn’t? But, I am, well, unusual. Sure, I like action and violence filled movies, just like most guys. But I also like dramas, thrillers, suspense, and even the occasional love story. But, two types of movies I don’t like seem to be the two types of movies that all my friends (ie; my gender and close to my age) love. These are Comedy (Ted, That’s my Boy, The Dictator, etc.) and Slashers (Scream, Saw, Friday the 13th, etc.). In this blog, I am going to be focusing on comedies, and why I don’t like them.

Reason #1: Sexual Content. Just about every comedy movie today is rated R, and for good reason. The sexual content is nearly non-stop. Almost every gag revolves around talk of sex, sexual activity, and other despicable variations. Many, dare I say most, include graphic depictions of said activity. Sex and anatomy are treated as nothing more than cheap humor and sickening gags by these movies, degrading and numbing the mind into believing this. I see no need to fill my head with perversions, graphic images, and disgusting speech, theme, and thought filled with both.

Reason #2: Stupidity. These movies are so incredibly stupid! Every character is made to look like a complete idiot. We laugh at that. Why? Idiocy in America is a problem, not a dismissable laugh. People are stupid, and so Hollywood makes movies to entertain these people, leaving the rest of us to wonder what ever happened to good comedy. But, movies hold more influence than you might think. In fact, I highly recommend you read this article before continuing. If you don’t, you will not understand why the idiocy in these movies is so important.

(Warning: Contains some language)

Hopefully you read this, and you can now continue on. Do you see why idiocy is so important now? The stupid characters, jokes, and slap-stick humor have way more influence on you then you think. Stupidity is already a problem, and these movies do nothing but feed more of it into your mind.

Reason #3: Drugs. Comedy movies are full of stupidity, sex, and, yes, drugs. Name one comedy you have seen recently that didn’t have any mention of drugs. In fact, name one that didn’t have a single scene with some sort of drug being sniffed, smoked, or inhaled in bongs. Even “light” comedies, such as Paul Blart: Mall Cop have alcohol in them (remember when Paul gets drunk and goes on a rampage?). Again, this content has more effect on the way you think than you think. It degrades the negativity of drugs and alcohol, making it look funny and fun. The hangovers look funny, the drug-highs look great, and they have no negative effects on the characters. Well, that’s not real, and that common belief traces back to way #5 in the article above, “You cannot separate fact from fiction”.

Reason #4: They aren’t funny. Look at all the above reasons, and tell me why any of them are funny. Sex, anatomy, and so on is not funny. Homosexuality, Beastuality, and other perversions are exactly that: Perversions. They are not funny. Idiocy is not funny. If I am face-palming through an entire movie, it is not funny. It is stupid. The encouragement of sex and drugs is not funny. It is harmful. It is degrading. It is stupid.

The world and society throws enough stupidity at me every day. I don’t need anymore. Why do I need to pay money to go see in a theater what I can go see in Walmart, or on the news? Stupidity is everywhere, and the last thing I want to do is pay to see even more of it.

Author’s note: If you aren’t sure about a movie, check out this site before you go and see it: They have solid reviews and warnings about any movie you might be planning on seeing.

Preachers of L.A. (Reality TV Show)
“I wish above all things that you would prosper, and be of good health.” I’m not sure what Bible he got that quote from, but it isn’t the Bible I read. A certain man named Job might have some words for this guy. In fact, I’m pretty sure a man named Jesus has some words for this guy. Words like “Woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry.” (Luke 6:24-25). “For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?” (Luke 9:25).

Now, listen to this one: “P-Diddy, Jay-Z; they’re not the only ones who should be driving Ferrarris and living in large houses.” Really? I want to see a Bible verse to back that one up, because in Luke 12:15, Jesus says, “And He said to them, ‘Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.'” Hmm.

Now, of course, these preachers are all part of the wildly popular “Health, Wealth, and Prosperity” movement (also known as the “Word of Faith” movement). This is a movement that uses the Bible as a tool to make money. This is not another form of Christianity, it is not another denomination. It is a scam, headed by what the Bible would refer to as false prophets. (Matthew 24:11, “And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.”) These preachers claim that God wants you to be healthy, wealthy, and whole. They say that by accepting Jesus, all your troubles will be whisked away, and by believing and, many say, speaking out loud, all your wishes will come true. To put it in simple words, they say that Jesus is a genie, here to give you everything you want.

Well, no. I see in the Bible many, many verses that talk about the struggle, persecution, and hardship that Christians will endure for Jesus’ namesake. Only a few include Matthew 24:9, Romans 8:35-36, 2 Corinthians 8:4-11, 2 Timothy 3:12… I see nothing in there about the life of a Believer being easy. In fact, quite the opposite. People will hate us, mock us, persecute us. We already see it around the world, and even some here in the Unites States. I’m pretty sure the believers going to secret churches in Asia and the Middle East would have a serious problem with these guys.

These are simply materialistic, selfish people who use the Bible and the power of language to bring people to an emotional high, a deceit of massive proportions to bring them money, to bring them health, wealth, and prosperity. They promise that to all who believe, and use themselves as “proof”, when they are simply feeding off of the poor, the sick, the hungry, the foolish masses who fall for their tricks, lies, and motivational speech, their tongue spewing out exactly what you want to hear, the too-good-to-be-true news, the promises of materialism, the promises of things that will pass away, things that will be incinerated in God’s Holy Fire, and when judgement day falls, they will see what they have done. Their followers will see their foolishness get incinerated, turned to ash, while the fancy cars and big houses of their would-be-saviors crumble and fade away in the light of God’s glory, the money that could have been used for missions, things of true value and worth, instead going into their own pockets, their own earthly pockets… “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things, the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.” (Ephesians 5:6). Do not be deceived. Do not let empty words, words spoken with power that is not there, deceive you. Do not let those who stroke the eyes and tickle the ears fool you.

Mark 12:38-40 : “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in luxurious robes and like greetings in the public places, and have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, who devour widow’s houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”

For more Biblical opinion on the Health, Wealth, and Prosperity movement, you can read some of the following verses, as well as the verses in the paragraphs above, and do your own research. 1 Tim. 6:9-11, Eph. 5:5-6, James 4:13-16, Matt. 6:19, Matt.6:24.

Circular Reasoning

Circular reasoning is quite common these days. Everyone accuses everyone of using it. Circular reasoning, is, of course, reasoning based on itself. Such as, The Bible says it is the truth, it is the truth because it is God’s word, and it is God’s word because it says it is and it is true. Or, these fossils are one million years old, because the rocks they are in are one million years old. We therefore can conclude that the rocks are one million years old because one million year old fossils were found in them.

Now, of course, neither of these patterns make any sense, and neither are actually accurate to the belief behind them. I believe that the Bible is true, yes, and I believe that it is God’s word. But, I do not believe either of those things about the Bible because the Bible said that. That would be ridiculous. I believe the Bible is true because it makes sense. Everyone in this world today requires proof to believe anything, it seems. But what is proof? Proof is an evidence, proving one theory or another correct beyond a shadow of a doubt. There is such thing as absolute proof. When you have a video of one person killing another, that is clearly absolute proof. But, as far as origins go? As far as religion, life and death, beginnings and endings? There is no “absolute” proof. Every religion, every belief has something it can’t explain. Some have more unexplainable things than others. So, I seek out what is most logical, what makes the most sense. True, I have been raised in a Christian home, always taught that the Bible was true. And I believed it simply because my parents did. But, as I grow older, I no longer believe something just because my parents do. I need a reason. So, we’ll start of basic.

In my search for absolute truth, absolute proof, I began looking at the world around me. As I studied Biology, Chemistry, and other topics regarding the Earth and the Universe, I quickly eliminated beliefs such as Evolution and Atheism. If the perfect balance of nature is not proof enough that there was an Intelligent Designer, then there’s not much more I can do to convince you. Evolution says that nature, it’s perfect balance with air, trees, humans, food chains, water cycles, gravity, rotation around a star at just the right distance… it says all that is on accident. You want me to believe that we are just a product of chance? Evolution’s theory is about at likely as tossing 6,000 dice in the air and expecting each dice head to be shown 1,000 times, in order of 1 to 6, to make it exactly even. If you still think Evolution is true, explain morals. Our brains. You’re telling me that our knowledge of right and wrong, our consciences, our intelligent thoughts, happened by chance? Take the dice theory and multiply it by a few thousand times to make the odds of our brains happening by chance. Besides, if Evolution was true, why should we believe it as so? I believe C.S. Lewis said it best:

“If the solar system was brought about by an accidental collision, then the appearance of organic life on this planet was also an accident, and the whole evolution of Man was an accident too. If so, then all our present thoughts are mere accidents—the accidental by-product of the movement of atoms. And this holds for the thoughts of the materialists and astronomers as well as for anyone else’s. But if their thoughts—i.e. of materialism and astronomy—are merely accidental by-products, why should we believe them to be true? I see no reason for believing that one accident should be able to give me a correct account of all the other accidents. It’s like expecting that the accidental shape taken by the splash when you upset a milk jug should give you a correct account of how the jug was made and why it was upset.”

So, using logic and evidence, I eliminated Evolution quickly. That means we have an intelligent designer. And, looking through other religions, Christianity makes the most sense. I see God working in people’s lives, I see hearts completely changed, I see people loving each other, not hating each other, and these people are Christians. If what I see in the church and in true Christians is not supernatural, I have no explanation for it. The Bible is the only book to fully explain creation, man’s nature, God’s nature, and gives us a way to know the Creator of the universe… The Bible makes sense. And it is evident in the world.

So, back to circular reasoning. I believe the Bible is true, that it is God’s word, because it makes sense, not because it says so. Evolution does not make sense. Even other religions do not make sense. But, if you are searching for “absolute proof”, you will not find it. Not in this life, anyway. Logic and reasoning is all we have, and logic and reasoning will always lead us to the Bible. Because God designed it that way. The Bible is the only logical thing we have in an ignorant and prideful world.

State of Red

And by “State of Red”, I mean, of course, Texas. As I’m sure most of you know, this past week, Texas passed a new bill about abortion. It is one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country, and liberals have sworn to fight it, despite the republican majority in the state legislature. The will ban abortions after 20 weeks, require abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital, and require all abortions to take place in surgical centers.

Now, you all know what I’m going to say. This is a step in the right direction, most definitely. Abortion is wrong. I don’t need to tell you why it’s wrong, you already know. I mean, honestly, I don’t care who you are, or how you look at it, abortion, flat out, is murder. You are killing a human being. Don’t try to deny a fetus’ humanity anymore then you would deny your own. You are simply deceiving yourself, entangling yourself in a web of lies and moral decay until, at last, perhaps you will lose your humanity. But, then again, how can you lose your humanity? We are fallen creatures, and so being sinful and immoral is part of our nature, our humanity. But that does not make it right. God calls us to be human, but to be human the way He meant us to be. That means following Him, obeying Him, living a life that will please Him, bring glory to HIM! And, murder, I’m afraid, is not part of that life. Murder is an evil, one of many in this world, that we must combat.

But, I will not stop there. Yes, abortion is murder, and Texas took a big step in the right direction with the abortion bill. Now, we have discussed the morality of abortion. Let’s talk politics. In a statement released by the Republican party, “As Democrats continue to talk about their dreams of turning Texas blue, passage of HB2 is proof that Texans are conservative and organized and we look forward to working with our amazing republican leadership in the Texas Legislature as they finish the special session strong.” The Republicans need to be careful here. They make it sound as if this whole thing was just to prove a political point. Which it did. But that should not be the reason for passing the bill. If the reason for passing the bill was simply to slap the Democrats in the face, then the Republicans here are no better than the “Pro-Choice” Liberals. The reason it should be done is for women’s health and protection of human life. We should care more about others and not ourselves. Do you think the Democrats honestly care about so called “Women’s Rights”? No, of course not! They just want more votes, so they give the people what they want. Republicans are there to stop this, but if they only do what is right in order to “show them who’s boss”, then they aren’t doing it for the people either! Which would make Republicans no better. I hope this is not the case, but, this is politics. So what else would you expect?

Finally, I want to end by criticizing Rick Perry, the man who led this crusade against abortion. In a statement following the bill’s passage, Perry said, “Today the Texas Legislature took its final step in our historic effort to protect life. This legislation builds on the strong ad unwavering commitment we have made to defend and protect women’s health.” Wait, did he say final? If the bill does not completely outlaw abortion, it cannot be final. Abortion, even before 20 weeks, is still murder. I will repeat myself: You cannot deny a fetus’ humanity anymore than you can deny your own. We must not stop at this bill. As Proverbs 14:34 says, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people.” Sin condemns any people. That includes America just as much as any other country. We are not above God’s law, and we should not act as if we are. If the Law of God is not obeyed, we are condemned. We must continue pushing God’s Law above the Court’s, morality above selfish gain, and life over death.

Music is everywhere. It is the largest source of entertainment in the world, existing in various forms everywhere from unknown islands, to third world countries, to first world countries like America. Living in a first world country means we have access to the widest variety of music then anywhere else in the world with no more than the click of a button or the tap of a screen. This means we have access to the best kinds of music… and the worst.

Yet, it seems that the worse a song is, the more popular it is. Now, this is not always true. There are still people with good taste who keep good bands going. But how songs like “Scream and Shout” by and Brittney Spears get to the top charts, I’ll never know. But, you have the choice of listening to that kind of music. You live in America (or some other first world country, since you have internet) for Pete’s sake!

Now, I’m not one of those old ladies who goes around telling everyone that hymns are the only good music left in this world, and everything else is of the Devil. Honestly, to those people out there, give me a break. God created music. It may be corrupted by sin, but so are you. If you are so holy, then music must be too. So, I’m not saying only listen to Christian music. Some of my favorite bands include Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Miracle of Sound, and Muse. None of these bands are “Christian” bands, but they have perfectly good music. But, there is some music out there that I will ask why you listen to. I mean, what is the point in filling your head with crude language, graphic depictions of things like drugs, sex, stealing, lying, or other things the Bible calls sin? Give me one good reason. And “because it’s popular” or “because the I like the style” are invalid excuses. There is no such thing as a good or bad genre of music. Each genre of music has good, bad, and in between artists. You choose which ones you listen to. You like rap? Don’t listen to Kanye West, Lil’ Wayne, or other artists like that. Listen to Lecrae, KJ-52, P.O.D. or other rappers with a positive message. But don’t fill your head with garbage. There are plenty of good artists out there, and you can listen to them. Music is not going to make you popular. Music has so many variations, so many genres, that you have no valid excuse for filling your mind with trash.

The Tolerance Paradox

Tolerance is what you hear everywhere. It’s some popular idea about peace, an idea that many people you know probably support. And it’s not a bad idea. In fact, tolerance is Biblical. If God was not tolerant, I don’t think we would exist right now. He would have, and rightfully so, wiped every human off the face of the Earth by now. God is tolerant because of His love for us, a love that we as Christians should all emulate to the world around us. By doing this, of course, we are being tolerant.

However, the tolerance movement is not based on God’s love. In fact, this popular sentiment is not based on tolerance at all. The Tolerance Movement seems to mistake our love for people as intolerance. I am tolerant towards people. I do not try to shove God down people’s throats, I do not force my opinions on people with different ideas. However, that does not mean I am silent about my faith. I will tell the world what I believe, why I believe, and why they should believe too. But the choice is theirs, not mine. See, the Tolerance Movement seems to tolerate only religions that shut up about their faith. Tolerance is literally defined as, “The ability or willingness to tolerate something, in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily agree with”. When a religion is silent, there is nothing to disagree with, nothing to tolerate. So this is not tolerance, it is oppression. The Tolerance Movement wants to achieve peace, achieve a lack of argument or dispute, by shutting everyone up. They don’t want to hear people’s opinions because they don’t agree with them. So they try to shut them, try to shut us, up. That is oppression.

I’m sure you have all seen those bumper stickers that look like this:ImageThere’s a quote that goes, “You are not entitled to your opinion. You are entitled to your informed opinion. No one is entitled to be ignorant.” I don’t know about you, but looking through history, I cannot remember a single time when these religions got along. What I do remember is mass slaughter, great wars, genocide, suicide, terrorism, and persecution of these religions by these religions. This is not an opinion, it is ignorance. Ignorance that is based off of this idea of Tolerance. Tolerance wants us all to shut up so that they don’t have to hear any opinion except their own. The Tolerance Movement is not based on tolerance at all. It is, at it’s core, intolerance. It hates anyone with a different opinion, and says to those who dare to speak it “shut up”. It is oppression based on intolerance.

This blog is a blog based off of my opinions, and these opinions are based off the the Bible. I am expressing my opinions in this blog, and if you don’t like it, don’t read it! If you don’t like it, don’t tell me to shut up. Don’t tell me I am intolerant. That is not tolerance, that is oppression. I am not forcing my opinions upon you, I am simply expressing them based on fact and information. The choice of agreeing with me or not is yours.

It is time America saw the Tolerance Movement for what it really is: A movement of intolerance towards opinions. A movement of hate and oppression.
