And by “State of Red”, I mean, of course, Texas. As I’m sure most of you know, this past week, Texas passed a new bill about abortion. It is one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country, and liberals have sworn to fight it, despite the republican majority in the state legislature. The will ban abortions after 20 weeks, require abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital, and require all abortions to take place in surgical centers.
Now, you all know what I’m going to say. This is a step in the right direction, most definitely. Abortion is wrong. I don’t need to tell you why it’s wrong, you already know. I mean, honestly, I don’t care who you are, or how you look at it, abortion, flat out, is murder. You are killing a human being. Don’t try to deny a fetus’ humanity anymore then you would deny your own. You are simply deceiving yourself, entangling yourself in a web of lies and moral decay until, at last, perhaps you will lose your humanity. But, then again, how can you lose your humanity? We are fallen creatures, and so being sinful and immoral is part of our nature, our humanity. But that does not make it right. God calls us to be human, but to be human the way He meant us to be. That means following Him, obeying Him, living a life that will please Him, bring glory to HIM! And, murder, I’m afraid, is not part of that life. Murder is an evil, one of many in this world, that we must combat.
But, I will not stop there. Yes, abortion is murder, and Texas took a big step in the right direction with the abortion bill. Now, we have discussed the morality of abortion. Let’s talk politics. In a statement released by the Republican party, “As Democrats continue to talk about their dreams of turning Texas blue, passage of HB2 is proof that Texans are conservative and organized and we look forward to working with our amazing republican leadership in the Texas Legislature as they finish the special session strong.” The Republicans need to be careful here. They make it sound as if this whole thing was just to prove a political point. Which it did. But that should not be the reason for passing the bill. If the reason for passing the bill was simply to slap the Democrats in the face, then the Republicans here are no better than the “Pro-Choice” Liberals. The reason it should be done is for women’s health and protection of human life. We should care more about others and not ourselves. Do you think the Democrats honestly care about so called “Women’s Rights”? No, of course not! They just want more votes, so they give the people what they want. Republicans are there to stop this, but if they only do what is right in order to “show them who’s boss”, then they aren’t doing it for the people either! Which would make Republicans no better. I hope this is not the case, but, this is politics. So what else would you expect?
Finally, I want to end by criticizing Rick Perry, the man who led this crusade against abortion. In a statement following the bill’s passage, Perry said, “Today the Texas Legislature took its final step in our historic effort to protect life. This legislation builds on the strong ad unwavering commitment we have made to defend and protect women’s health.” Wait, did he say final? If the bill does not completely outlaw abortion, it cannot be final. Abortion, even before 20 weeks, is still murder. I will repeat myself: You cannot deny a fetus’ humanity anymore than you can deny your own. We must not stop at this bill. As Proverbs 14:34 says, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people.” Sin condemns any people. That includes America just as much as any other country. We are not above God’s law, and we should not act as if we are. If the Law of God is not obeyed, we are condemned. We must continue pushing God’s Law above the Court’s, morality above selfish gain, and life over death.
